Can you really sell cars in a shopping centre?
Anyone looking to buy a car would normally make a deliberate trip to a dealership. These are often located on the outskirts of town, with large premises, a service area, workshop facilities and numerous vehicles on site. The visit is planned and purposeful, and is often already associated with a specific intention to buy.
The BYD Store in Neumarkt takes a different approach. Instead of presenting the brand in a traditional car dealership, it is located directly in the “Neuer Markt” shopping centre – right where people are already spending their time. This means that the first contact with the brand does not require a planned visit to a dealership, but is naturally integrated into everyday life.
The conceptual and design framework for the showroom was developed by BYD and Gensler. Vizona was responsible for implementing the concept across approximately 100 m² in terms of construction, technology and functionality, coordinating all trades involved as the general contractor.
Especially for BYD, a relatively young brand in the German market, this accessible first point of contact plays an important role. The showroom creates visibility, offers an initial introduction to the brand and its lifestyle, and brings electric mobility directly to where potential customers already are.

At the same time, the project highlights the demands that compact showroom concepts place on shopfitting. After all, less space certainly does not mean lower requirements. Vehicle presentation, furniture, lighting, media technology and brand staging all need to be precisely coordinated within a limited area. At the same time, the space needs to feel open and inviting while still providing enough room to experience both the vehicles and the brand in a high-quality setting.
